ADRIAN Mayor Sam Rye has announced that he will not run for re-election this fall, ending 16 years in city politics.
The announcement, made Monday night at the end of the city board of commissioners meeting, came as a surprise since Mr. Rye had taken out an application to run. But he told the commissioners that after talking it over with his family and realizing he has spent one-third of his life in local politics, it was time to step down.
Mr. Rye was elected to the city commission in 1989 and became mayor in 1995.
