FISHERS, Ind. Authorities have identified a Defiance man who was one of two people killed this week in an auto accident near Indianapolis.

General G. Gathing, 71, died about 10 p.m. Tuesday when he drove his car the wrong way in the northbound lanes of I-69 and was struck head on by a car driven by Carrie Brizendine, 22, of Anderson, Ind., who also died.

A third car was northbound behind Ms. Brizendine s vehicle and struck Mr. Gathing s car, causing minor injuries to the driver and passenger.

Witnesses told Fishers police they saw Mr. Gathing s car make a U-turn in the northbound lanes about 10 miles northeast of Indianapolis and head south.
