Metroparks to offer walking program

Metroparks to offer walking program

Toledo Area Metroparks is challenging area residents to get off the couch and hit the trails this fall as part of the 12th annual Autumn Adventure walking program.

The event kicks off at 10 a.m. tomorrow with a trek beginning at Wildwood Metropark s Ward Pavilion, 5100 West Central Ave.

To complete the program, participants must walk eight trails in the various parks between tomorrow and Nov. 8, either on the honor system or during scheduled group hikes. Walking records, available at all metroparks, list 15 trails of varying lengths to choose from, as well as a complete schedule of Autumn Adventure programs.

Those who complete the program can purchase an Autumn Adventure T-shirt, which features a unique design each year created by staff Art Director Jesse Mireles.

A new, four-part series, Walking Off Weight and Stress, has been incorporated into the walking program this year. Participants will earn Autumn Adventure credit, and each session will include a fitness walk and educational presentation.

Topics will include goal setting, nutrition, walking safety, and journal keeping. Participation is free, but there is a charge for the Walking Off Weight and Stress series and the T-shirts.

For more information, call 419-407-9700 or go to www.metroparkstoledo.com.
