Evergreen plant given until Oct. 15 to pay fees

The Evergreen Recycling and Disposal Facility has until Oct. 15 to pay off about $122,144 in late fees that were assessed to its privately operated landfill in Northwood, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency said yesterday.

The state agency said it is collecting fees on top of $353,946 the company paid the state in 2004 for erroneously coding 201,720 tons of solid waste as exempt. The waste in question was brought to the landfill between 1999 and 2003 by Northwest Ohio Hauling, the agency said.

The Ohio EPA said it is exercising its right to collect late fees if there is a delay in receiving the original disposal fees.
