Fatal military ambulance crash under investigation

MILAN, Mich. The Monroe County Sheriff s Office is looking for witnesses who saw a military ambulance crash on U.S. 23 on Friday, killing the driver.

Melvin L. Beasley, 23, of Detroit, a sergeant with the Army Reserve, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies said Sergeant Beasley was southbound on U.S. 23 north of Cone Road in Milan Township at 12:09 p.m. Friday when the ambulance he was driving went off the right side of the road, back into the right lane, then crossed the center line and struck the center median wall.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information that might help in the investigation is urged to contact the sheriff s office.
