1-car crash kills driver from Upper Sandusky

UPPER SANDUSKY, Ohio A Wyandot County man died yesterday in a wreck on State Rt. 53 that sent his passenger to the hospital, authorities said.

William W. Whitford, 24, of Upper Sandusky, was pronounced dead at the scene, Wyandot County sheriff s deputies said.

The passenger in the car driven by Mr. Whitford, 20-year-old Danielle N. Rhoades, remained in serious condition yesterday afternoon at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, a spokesman there said.

The crash occurred shortly after 5 a.m. as the car headed west on Route 53, deputies said. It went off the left side of the road, rolled several times, and hit two trees before coming to rest at the west side of a home.

Mr. Whitford was ejected from the car, and it appeared he was not wearing his seat belt, deputies said.
