WHARTON, Ohio - A Muncie, Ind., man remained hospitalized yesterday after an accident Saturday in which his car plowed through a barn.
The crash sent driver Johnson McGee, 69, and his daughter, Sandra May, 39, to the hospital, said Lt. Todd Frey of the Wyandot County Sheriff's Office. Mr. McGee remained in fair condition in Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus. Ms. May was not listed as a patient.
The pair were traveling east on U.S. 30 at an estimated 65 mph at 12:42 p.m. when the car went off the road at Wyandot County Highway 81 and into a ditch, where it struck a telephone junction box, then rolled into a freshly planted field, Lieutenant Frey said. Mr. McGee and Ms. May jumped from the car.
The car went through the side of a barn, making a 10-foot-by-15-foot hole, and hit a wagon used to haul grain, Lieutenant Frey said. The car came to a stop, but the wagon knocked down a section of concrete block wall.
Charges are pending, the lieutenant said.
