A motorcycle passenger was killed and the driver hurt seriously when the cycle s rear tire ruptured on a busy highway in Maumee yesterday afternoon.
Cherylynn Bennett, 51, of Howell, Mich., was thrown onto the pavement of U.S. 23 just north of the State Rt. 24 overpass about 2:30 p.m., Maumee police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, Paul Jordan, 56, of Howell, was taken to Medical University of Ohio Medical Center after the cycle, traveling about 70 mph, overturned and skidded about 150 feet.
Hospital officials said they had no information on Mr. Jordan. Both cyclists were wearing helmets, authorities said.
