Parents whose children attend Kidz Korner on Brint Road in Sylvania are scrambling to find other day-care services.
This week parents were given three-days notice that Kidz Korner is being evicted today, and the business, which provides day care for about 40 children, is closing.
It s a big shock, said Mary Jo Pruhs, owner, both to her and to the parents. They are devastated and we are also, she said.
Kidz Korner is behind on its rent on the leased building, but the owner and parents yesterday were trying to work out a contingency plan that would keep the day care open through July. Some parents have offered to help pay the back rent.
Ms. Pruhs said that even if she comes up with the rent money, the business won t be allowed to stay open beyond July 31 because the landlord won t renew the lease.
Ms. Pruhs said it s been a tough year financially for the business because of the economy, and right now Kidz Korner, which has been in business for eight years, doesn t have as many children enrolled.
Some parents who are clients of the center are teachers who don t need day care during the summer, she explained.
It s possible that she will relocate the business, she said.
