Motorcyclist swerves to avoid rodent, overturns

MILAN, Ohio A 51-year-old man was injured yesterday when he veered his motorcycle off the road to avoid hitting a groundhog, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Ronald Brooks of Bellevue, Ohio, was westbound at 5:58 p.m. along State Rt. 113 in Milan Township in Erie County when he swerved off the right side of the road to avoid the animal. His motorcycle then struck a fence and overturned, troopers at the Sandusky post said.

Mr. Brooks was not wearing a helmet, and troopers charged him with failure to control and operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was transported to Fisher-Titus Medical Center, Norwalk, where his condition was not available.
