CASTALIA, Ohio - Three Tiffin residents were hurt yesterday - two seriously - when a car and two motorcycles collided on Bogart Road east of here in Erie County, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.
Ronald G. Golden, 65, one of the motorcyclists, and his passenger, Mary L. Golden, 63, both of Tiffin, were taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky, and then flown to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, where they were in serious condition last night.
Mr. Golden was eastbound on Bogart, east of Maple Avenue, about 11 a.m. riding with another motorcycle behind him, when the crash occurred.
A car headed west on Bogart driven by Bonnie B. Wiswell, 63, of Sandusky, slowed and began to turn left into a private drive in front of the motorcyclists, troopers at the patrol's Sandusky post said.
Mr. Golden tried to stop but hit the front left side of the car. He and Ms. Golden were thrown from the bike, troopers said.
The driver of the second motorcycle, Dennis R. Burkin, 60, of Tiffin, swerved to avoid the accident but hit Mr. Golden, who was lying in the roadway. Mr. Burkin was thrown from his motorcycle and taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center, but a hospital spokesman said she had no information on any patient by that name. Mr. Burkin's passenger, Tracy J. Burkin, 46, also of Tiffin, was not hurt.
None of the motorcyclists was wearing a helmet. Ms. Wiswell was cited for failure to yield while making a left turn, troopers said.
