DUNDEE, Mich. The decomposed body found Monday along West Dunbar Road has been identified as Christopher Kidd, 39, an African-American and a Detroit resident, according to the Monroe County Sheriff s Office.
Detectives used fingerprints from his remains to identify him. They are treating the case as a homicide. The body could have been there for weeks, authorities said.
Petersburg resident Ronald Smock, 64, found the decomposed body in Dundee Township while bicycling at about 3 p.m Monday along West Dunbar Road. The body was lying about 10 feet from the north side of Dunbar Road, just about 250 feet east of U.S. 23 at the border of Dundee and Summerfield townships.
"When I went up to it, I could tell it was a human skull," he said.
An autopsy was scheduled to be done today at the Wayne County Morgue in Detroit.
Monroe County sheriff s detectives Jeff Corie and Dave Davison are working on the case with the assistance of the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.
