A section of Airport Highway between Fearing Boulevard and South Avenue was closed for several hours yesterday while crews repaired a utility pole that was sheared off as a result of a traffic accident, authorities said.
David Jaeck, of 1764 Airport, was westbound on Airport about 12:20 a.m. when he said a pickup pulled out in front of him. He said he hit the rear of the pickup then veered off the left side of the road, where his vehicle sheared off the pole, police said.
His vehicle then hit a parked car in the driveway of 2051 Airport. The pickup fled the scene before police arrived. The road was closed until Toledo Edison crews replaced the pole and transformer, police said.
Mr. Jaeck was not hurt. He was cited for failure to control, police said.
