OHIO CITY, Ohio - A 13-year-old boy was found dead under his ATV shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday in a field west of Ohio City, Van Wert County sheriff's deputies said yesterday.
Michael Quinn Young, of Ohio City, was found pinned under the four-wheel vehicle nearly three hours after a 911 call to report the accident.
A passenger, Chelsea Schaadt, 15, of Van Wert, Ohio, who deputies said suffered several broken bones, was in fair condition yesterday in Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.
The two were riding the ATV along a railroad track bed when the vehicle hit a bump and flipped over. The girl was thrown clear, but the boy was pinned under the vehicle. The girl tried to lift the ATV, then walked to a house to seek help.
Michael was an eighth-grade student at Lincolnview High School, Van Wert. He enjoyed playing baseball and fishing and liked working on his motorcycles and go-carts.
Arrangement are being handled by Harter and Schier Funeral Home, Delphos, Ohio.
