Woman, 84, hospitalized after mishap with van

An 84-year-old Point Place woman was in fair condition yesterday after running herself over with her new van, according to police.

Margie Kirsch, of the 2300 block of Ottawa River Road, had just bought the van and did not know how to release its parking brake, Toledo police said. After starting the vehicle on Friday morning, she put the van in reverse, then exited the vehicle.

While standing outside the van, Mrs. Kirsch discovered the release lever for the parking brake and pulled it.

The van lurched into motion and its door struck Mrs. Kirsch, who was dragged into the street, police said.

The van then struck a vehicle parked across the road.

Mrs. Kirsch was taken by ambulance to St. Charles Mercy Hospital
