MONROE The United Way of Monroe County officially concluded its annual fund-raising campaign yesterday.
It raised $1.37 million that will provide services to about 31,000 people in the county, which is about $393,000 less than the agency s goal of $1.76 million.
David Nixon, president of Monroe County Community College and chairman of this year s campaign, said the threat of local plant closings and the many layoffs in the community contributed to the lower contributions.
