Veteran fire captain is named chief in Bowling Green


BOWLING GREEN Fire Capt. Stephen Meredith yesterday was named the city s new fire chief by Mayor John Quinn.

Chief Meredith, who joined the fire division in 1981, replaces Joe Burns, who retired at the end of the year after leading the 52-person department since 1989.

Chief Meredith, who was promoted to lieutenant in 1985 and became a captain in 1990, will be paid $84,926 a year. His appointment is effective Monday.

Steve Meredith has been successful in the many leadership roles he has taken in the fire division. He is a person of the highest integrity and has shown dedication throughout his many years of service, Mr. Quinn said in a statement.
