Temperance boy, 14, dies of injuries in bicycle crash

A 14-year-old Temperance boy who had just finished his freshman year at Bedford High School died late Wednesday night in Toledo Hospital, where he had been in critical condition since he was hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle on Sunday.

Peter J. Mihos was injured in Bedford Township two days after classes ended for summer vacation.

He was riding his bicycle north through a crosswalk on Summerfield Road, west of Douglas Road, when he was struck about 10:30 p.m. by a vehicle driven by Amy L. Hullibarger, 35, of Toledo, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office reported.

Ms. Hullibarger, who was treated at Toledo Hospital, was headed west on Summerfield through the Douglas intersection when she hit the boy, sheriff's deputies said.

Bedford High School Principal Dennis Caldwell said the high school would have held a service for Peter if school were in session. But, he said, the high school will provide grief counseling to students if needed.

"If parents call and have special needs, then we will accommodate them," he said.
