Owens Community College named Kevin Skaggs its men s basketball coach yesterday.
Skaggs has served as an assistant coach for five years two years full-time and three years as a volunteer.
He replaces Jack Trainer, who accepted a teaching and head coaching position at Clay High School in Portsmouth, near his hometown of Waverly in southern Ohio.
I would not have guessed that when I came down here in 2001 it would have ended up like it did, Skaggs said. I m very happy for the opportunity to step in.
He said he plans on following the same path of those who led before him and to continue to push the team forward.
Skaggs, of Erie, Mich., also is an assistant principal at Gesu School, a K-8 school in West Toledo. He previously coached at Alma College for six years and was an assistant coach for Kalamazoo Valley Community College s for six years.
The Express had a 22-12 record last season and kick off this season.
