Sylvania man dies after crash on motorcycle

A Sylvania man died in a Toledo hospital yesterday about four hours after crashing his motorcycle on Centennial Road in Springfield Township, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Michael M. Merritt, 53, was pronounced dead at 4:45 a.m. at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, troopers at the patrol's Toledo post said. The crash occurred at 12:55 a.m. on Centennial north of Dorr Street.

Mr. Merritt was northbound on Centennial between Dorr and Bancroft Street when he lost control of the motorcycle, causing it to hit the guardrail. Mr. Merritt, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle into a ditch, troopers said.
