Woman in serious condition after crash in Defiance County

SHERWOOD, Ohio A woman remained in serious condition early Wednesday in a Fort Wayne, Ind. hospital after her car slid on an ice-slickened bridge and into the path of a sport-utility vehicle the day before, authorities said.

Victoria E. McMaster, 19, of Sherwood, was taken by helicopter to Parkview Hospital after the crash, which occurred about 7:20 a.m. Tuesday in Defiance County s Delaware Township.

Ms. McMaster was driving southbound on U.S. 127 when the car slid left of center as an SUV driven by James M. Shaw, 41, of Sherwood, approached northbound, troopers at the Defiance post of the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

After the collision, Ms. McMaster was extricated from her vehicle by the Jaws of Life.

Mr. Shaw was treated at Defiance Regional Medical Center.
