Enthusiastic crowd lines up early in Toledo for Obama rally tickets

INDIANAPOLIS Sen. John McCain said Friday that while lobbyists serve as close advisers to his presidential campaign, they are honorable and he is not influenced by corruption in the system. "I'm moving on. I'm talking about the issues and the challenges of America and the big issues that Americans are concerned about. I addressed the issue and addressed every question that was addressed to me. "I do not intend to discuss it further," he told reporters.

COLUMBUS, Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland is putting an end to flexible work hours for thousands of state employees. It s a big change for many employees who have worked nontraditional schedules for years to accommodate child care needs, spend more time with family members or make car pool arrangements with neighbors.

Northbound I-280, just south of the Woodville Road exit in Northwood, was closed Friday morning to traffic after a Lake Township police car and an Oregon police car spun out and crashed on the snow-slickened road. There were no reports of serious injuries in the crash that occurred about 8:05 a.m., Northwood police said.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. Pierre s Ice Cream Co. is expanding a recall to West Virginia and Kentucky. The Cleveland, Ohio-based company said Thursday that 56-ounce packages of its Homestyle Brand of Dutch chocolate ice cream may contain peanut butter cups, which aren t listed as an ingredient. People with peanut allergies or severe sensitivity could develop life-threatening health problems if they eat the ice cream, though Pierre s says no illnesses have been reported.

A tractor-trailer rig crashed on a snow-slickened I- 75 viaduct near downtown early Friday, closing the Collingwood Boulevard exit ramp and limiting the northbound traffic on the freeway to two left lanes, Toledo police said. The driver of the truck, whose name was not released, was not seriously hurt, officers said.

An Ohio Highway Patrol trooper was hurt early Friday when his cruiser was hit by a sport-utility vehicle on westbound I-475 at the U.S. 23 split in Sylvania Township, authorities said. Jason Metzger, 27, of Toledo, the trooper, was treated at Flower Hospital.
