STRYKER, Ohio - An inmate at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio died yesterday of apparent natural causes pending results of an autopsy to be performed today, authorities said.
Darnell Williams, 47, of Toledo, was pronounced dead about 12:50 a.m. yesterday at Archbold Hospital.
Authorities said there was no evidence of foul play.
A corrections officer completed an inspection in the 60-bed unit where Williams was housed about 11:30 p.m. Monday. About 10 minutes later, several inmates started yelling that Williams was having problems, authorities said.
Authorities at the facility performed CPR while they waited for emergency personnel to arrive. Williams was pronounced dead less than an hour after arriving at the hospital.
He was serving a six-month sentence on a misdemeanor conviction of attempted breaking and entering, Lucas County Common Pleas Court records show.
