Trustees to pay $45,000 to settle slander case

SANDUSKY Perkins Township trustees have agreed to pay Fostoria police Chief John McGuire $45,000 to settle a claim that township officials slandered him.

Trustees voted 3-0 Tuesday evening to approve the settlement with Chief McGuire, who previously was employed by the township police department.

Mr. McGuire sued the township and police Chief Tim McClung in Seneca County Common Pleas Court last year, saying Chief McClung made false statements with intent to harm him when he was a candidate for the chief s position in Fostoria.
