Bowling Green obtains easements for walking, biking path

BOWLING GREEN - The city is taking the first step toward building a walking and biking path to the Bowling Green Community Center at Haskins and Newton roads.

Parks Director Michelle Grigore said easements have been procured along the west side of Haskins Road just south of Wren Road from Bowling Green Covenant Church and Bowling Green Christian Academy, and on the east side of Haskins Road from Robert and Patricia Maurer.

Last night, city council heard a first reading of an ordinance accepting the easements.

The idea is to provide a safe route for pedestrians and bicyclists to get to the center - something that still may be a year or two away.

"I can't say when it will go in," Ms. Grigore said of the pathway. "We're at step No. 1, which is to get the land set aside. The second part is to make sure the money gets raised, and the third part is construction."

Council President Megan Newlove said a vote on the measure likely will occur July 7.
