FOSTORIA Safety-Service Director Bill Rains was shown the door when he arrived for work yesterday.
Mayor John Davoli declined to say what prompted his decision to fire Mr. Rains, whom he hired in June, 2005. At the time, Mr. Rains was village administrator of Pioneer, Ohio, in Williams County.
There s really no reason, Mr. Davoli said. We re just going in a change of direction at this time.
Mr. Rains, whose annual salary rose from $48,510 to $71,947 during his three years in Fostoria, could not be reached for comment.
Mr. Davoli said he was re-examining resumes he has received from potential applicants over the last few years and planned to post the job as well. In the meantime, he named his executive secretary, Diane Lind, as interim safety-service director.
