2 Swanton area men killed in early morning crash
OTTAWA LAKE Two Swanton area men were killed early Tuesday when the driver of a vehicle that was reportedly stolen out of Ohio lost control and crashed at a Whiteford Township intersection, about one mile north of the state line.
The victims, whose names were not being released, were 19 and 45 years old, according to the Monroe County Sheriff"s Office. A third person who was in the car an 18-year-old man was listed in serious condition at Toledo Hospital, deputies said.
The accident occurred about 3:30 a.m. when the Ford Mustang that was southbound on Head-O-Lake Road skidded through a stop sign at Old U.S. 223 and struck the embankment at the Conrail tracks that run parallel to the highway and vaulted over the railroad tracks.
Deputies said the car struck some small trees and landed on its top.
The crash remains under investigation.
