2 drivers hurt in Lenawee County crash

ADRIAN An Adrian man was hurt seriously yesterday when a sport utility vehicle struck his car on Forrister Road near Wilkinson Highway west of Adrian in Lenawee County s Rome Township, the sheriff s office said.

James Smith, 29, was flown to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, following the crash that occurred at 6:45 a.m. He was in critical condition last night, a hospital spokesman said.

Mr. Smith was westbound on Forrister when an SUV driven east by Melissa Fender, 23, of Hudson, Mich., crossed the center line and went into the path of Mr. Smith s car, deputies said.

Ms. Fender also was hurt in the crash and taken to Bixby Medical Center, Adrian, deputies said. A hospital spokesman declined to release patient information.
