Rocket men are bullish in win over Buffalo
UT has hot hand on offensive end, wins 4th straight game
The University of Toledo men’s basketball team opened Mid-American Conference play in style by cruising to an 86-54 win over Buffalo on Tuesday at Savage Arena.
The Rockets found their shooting touch early, hitting 61.3 percent from the field in the first half, and never looked back on the way to their eighth win of the season and their season-high fourth win in a row.
“I thought it was a great start to our MAC season,” UT coach Tod Kowalczyk said. “We played for the most part, a complete, 40-minute game. It was a tremendous first half. I thought we defensive rebounded at a high level, we guarded some of their better players well and offensively that was the best we have played in a long time. We really executed.”
Senior Jonathan Williams led Toledo (8-6, 1-0 MAC) with 26 points, his seventh consecutive game of 20-plus points. Sophomore Jaelan Sanford added 22 points and redshirt freshman Luke Knapke added 13. Steve Taylor, Jr., had nine points, 15 rebounds, and a career-high seven assists. FULL STORY | PHOTO GALLERY
Falcons hang tough in MAC opener
Zips increase win streak to 24 straight home games
The Bowling Green State University men’s basketball team suffered an 89-84 loss to Akron at JAR Arena in the Mid-American Conference opener for both schools.
The Falcons never allowed the Zips, who have won 24 straight home games, to pull away in the contest. But while BG was able to narrow the margin at several points in the second half, the Falcons never were able to take a lead in that period and instead suffered a 17th consecutive loss to Akron.
Demajeo Wiggins scored a career-high 21 points and added eight rebounds to lead Bowling Green (6-8). Ismail Ali, Antwon Lillard and Zack Denny each had 16 points while Wes Alcegaire finished with 10. FULL STORY
