The Interact Club of St. Francis de Sales High School hosts a Christmas party for central Toledo school children, grades K-3, Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011. The Rotary Club of Toledo partners with the Interact Club , providing gifts and food for the 40 underprivileged children who attend the gathering. Dr. Lloyd Jacobs, UT's president; Kirsten A. Skeens, mace bearer, and William McMillen, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, walk in the processional. Ms. Skeens is the oldest grandchild of the late Alice Skeens, dean of the College of Languages, Literature and Social Sciences, who died this November. Professor Skeens had been the mace bearer for many years.

UT Commencement 12-18-11

Graduates waved diplomas and celebrated during the University of Toledo's commencement on Sunday. The university had 2,248 degree candidates from the Summer, 2011, and Fall, 2011 semesters from its 11 colleges.

Salvation Army Toy Giveaway

The Salvation Army held a toy giveaway at the Erie Street Market Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011. Parents participating in the giveaway are allowed to have two toys per child, stocking stuffers, a family game, jackets, and some will also receive a bag of food for Christmas dinner. The Woodville Mall in Northwood is being considered for closure by city and county officials over health and safety concerns.
