A Toledo man was in the Lucas County jail yesterday after he was arrested for allegedly driving a stolen truck and hitting two houses and two parked vehicles with the truck in West Toledo, authorities said.
Savario Whitaker, 18, of 636 Waverly Ave., was arraigned on the charges of receiving stolen property, obstructing official business, providing false information to police, and failing to comply with a police officer. He was ordered held in the jail in lieu of $7,500 bond by Judge Francis X. Gorman in Toledo Municipal Court.
Two police officers spotted the truck, reported stolen in Findlay, in the area of 1700 MacOmber Street about 1:40 a.m. Sunday. When they tried to stop the truck, the driver fled north on Isherwood Avenue to Milburn Avenue and then turned onto Rosedale Avenue, police said.
When the truck turned from Rosedale into an alley on Milburn, it hit a house at 2343 Rosedale. The truck continued to 1718 Milburn, where it turned into the yard, hit the parked vehicles and the house. The driver fled on foot but was caught after a short chase, police said.
