A 12-year-old South Toledo boy was hit in the leg by a stray bullet as he was playing football with other children near his home, police said.
Deonte Brown of 549 Elmdale Ct. was treated for a gunshot wound in his lower left leg at Toledo Hospital, Battalion Fire Chief Eric Renzhofer said.
The boy was playing with several other children in the backyard of an apartment complex in the 400 block of Elmdale about 5:50 p.m. when he was hit by a bullet fired from a passing vehicle, Detective James Scott said.
It is possible occupants of that vehicle and another one, whose descriptions were not available, were exchanging gunfire. The vehicles last were seen eastbound on South Avenue, police said.
