Man indicted for fatal hit-and-run accident

A Wayne, Ohio, man accused of killing a truck driver in a hit-and-run accident in Maumee was indicted yesterday by a Lucas County grand jury for aggravated vehicular homicide.

Karl Eickmann, 38, additionally was indicted for tampering with evidence and failing to stop after an injury accident.

Police said Mr. Eickmann struck and killed Jared Akins, 27, a Bellevue, Ohio, truck driver, at U.S. 24 and I-475, and then fled in his extensively damaged car.

Mr. Akins had been on his way home to Bellevue when his truck ran out of fuel. He was dragged 100 feet by Mr. Eickmann's 1991 Chevrolet Corsica, police said.
