Bil-jax leaves business of equipment rental

ARCHBOLD —Bil-jax, Inc., one of the nation's largest manufacturers of scaffolding, is getting out of the equipment rental business.

The firm announced yesterday that it has sold its rental and Anchor Equipment unit, which included seven outlets with 42 employees in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. The buyer was Black Swamp Equipment LLC, of Archbold. The sale price wasn't disclosed.

Bil-jax, a unit of financially troubled Plettac AG, of Plettenberg, Germany, said the sale was part of a plan to shed non-core businesses and focus on its core manufacturing division.
