TECUMSEH, Mich. -Tecumseh Products Co. said yesterday it lost $6.5 million, or 35 cents a share, in the second quarter compared to a profit of $23 million, or $1.27 a share, at the same time last year.
The company, a leading manufacturer of refrigeration compressors and lawn mower engines, said that sales in the three months ended June 30 were $482 million, up from $395 million in the prior-year period.
The second-quarter loss was attributed to plant closings and other restructuring costs in the firm's engine and powertrain unit.
