Westgate Village Shopping Center won t be without a candy store after all.
which opened in downtown Toledo 15 months ago, will open a temporary space at the West Toledo shopping center next weekend. It plans to move into the vacated Fanny Farmer location by March 1.
“We want to make sure that Westgate has a candy store for Valentine s Day,” said Brenda Reynolds, owner of Superior Chocolates.
Chicago-based Archibald Candy Co. decided last week to close all of its 228 stores, including the Fanny Farmer store at Westgate.
Two of the store s three employees will work at the new Superior Chocolates site, Ms. Reynolds said.
Initial plans call for the shop to open in about 400 square feet in the location of the former Funky Baby store, near the Fanny Farmer location, in the mall s promenade.
Ms. Reynolds will continue to offer homemade chocolates, gifts, and cards at her shop at 321 N. Superior St., while the Westgate location will offer candy, mostly boxed chocolates that will be made at the downtown store, and fudge and ice cream.
