Woman is sentenced in unemployment case

A former employee for the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services was sentenced to three years of community control yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court for filing $33,176 of false unemployment claims.

Brenda S. McClain, 37, of 27696 Oregon Rd., Lot 200, in Perrysburg, was sentenced by Judge Charles Doneghy for theft in office offenses that occurred from 1998 to 2002.

As part of her sentence, McClain will serve three months in a work-release program and perform 100 hours of community service.

Bruce Sorg, an assistant county prosecutor, said McClain filed three bogus claims on behalf of others, including family members.
