A Toledo man convicted of sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl was sentenced yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to three years in prison.
Jonathan A. Cogan, 32, was sentenced by Judge James Bates, who followed the recommendation of court staff and classified Cogan as a sexual offender.
Cogan entered an Alford plea Aug. 12 to attempted rape.
In an Alford plea, a defendant does not admit guilt but pleads guilty to a lesser charge to escape more severe penalties had the case proceeded to trial.
Prosecutors said the victim was assaulted June 7 at a relative's home in North Toledo, where the defendant rented a room. The girl told family members who notified authorities.
