Shares of Owens-Illinois Inc. closed yesterday at $17.30, up $1.64, or more than 10 percent, on the New York Stock Exchange after the glassmaker reported higher profits Tuesday evening.
Toledo's second largest firm had reported third-quarter profit of $69 million, or more than double the figure in the same quarter a year ago. Yesterday, its shares closed 10 cents below the 52-week high of $17.40 in trading of 3.4 million shares, nearly five times normal volume.
