Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church plans to build a 50-unit senior housing complex on land it owns on Angola Road.
The 8.4-acre site, on the south side of Angola Road west of Country Creek Lane, is undeveloped. It had been zoned for single-family housing, but last week the Toledo Plan Commission unanimously approved a zoning change to multi-family.
The church plans to build a 40,524-square-foot single-story building with 50 one-bedroom units. As proposed, the complex would have 51 parking spaces, a sidewalk from Angola Road to the front entrance, and a driveway along the west side of the lot.
The site plan also includes a 30-foot greenbelt along Angola Road and landscape buffers around the rest of the property.
At least one person has complained that the complex should not be built on the site. In a January letter to the plan commission, Duane J. Tillimon, who owns a lot that borders the site, said he would not have built a house there if he knew the property would not become a single-family subdivision. Although the city's 20/20 ComprehensiveLand-Use Plan had targeted the land for single-family housing, the plan commission agreed that the senior housing was an appropriate transition between the single-family houses and duplexes to its south and the light industrial area to its north.
