5-year sentence possible for driver who hurt teens

HILLSDALE A 23-year-old North Adams, Mich., man responsible for seriously injuring two Hillsdale youths in a traffic accident in August, has pleaded no contest to a pair of driving-under-the-influence charges in Hillsdale County Circuit Court.

Bramwell Christy III could face up to five years in prison when he is sentenced on Dec. 19, court officials said.

Christy s pickup truck failed to yield for a stop sign at Denning and Sterling roads in Hills dale County and collided with a vehicle driven by 16-year-old Makenzie Wincki.

Ms. Wincki and her 16-year-old passenger, Michelle Lattas, were seriously hurt. Ms. Wincki remains hospitalized with multiple leg fractures and head injuries, court officials said.

At the time of the accident, Christy s blood alcohol level was nearly three times Michigan s 0.08 percent threshold, authorities said.
