Man from Swanton area found guilty in fatal wreck

A Swanton-area man whose reckless driving caused a fiery collision on Airport Highway that killed a teenage driver was convicted yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Jeffrey Stefanski, 19, of 14040 Reed Rd. entered no contest pleas to one count of aggravated vehicular homicide and two counts of vehicular assault. Judge Gary Cook found him guilty and scheduled a sentence hearing for March 15.

Stefanski was driving erratically April 9 on Airport near Toledo Express Airport and cut off an eastbound car driven by Robert C. Anderson, 17, of 3054 Pebble Ct., Monclova Township, who went left of center and collided with an oncoming tractor trailer.

Young Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene. His two passengers were hospitalized. Stefanski fled but surrendered to Ohio Highway Patrol troopers later that evening.
