Bob Vasquez is a candidate, after all, for the vacancy on Toledo City Council, a Lucas County Democratic Party official said yesterday.
Domenic Montalto, the party s executive director, yesterday said Mr. Vasquez turned in an application either late Friday or early Saturday.
A total of 12 people have now applied to the party for its recommendation in filling the seat vacated May 2 by former Councilman Bob McCloskey. The party s screening committee is planning interviews this week, Mr. Montalto said.
Council has 30 days from McCloskey s resignation to appoint a replacement. The nod is expected to go to a Democrat because Democrats hold a majority of council seats. Mr. Vasquez ran as an unendorsed Democrat for an at-large city council seat last November and finished as the next highest vote-getter after the six who were elected.
