A Michigan man was convicted yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court of critically injuring a man during an altercation at a party earlier this year.
Bryan Davis, 29, of 6225 Telegraph Rd., Erie, pleaded no contest to felonious assault. He was found guilty by Judge Gary Cook, who scheduled sentencing for Aug. 16. Davis is facing a possible sentence of eight years in prison.
The victim, Matthew Salts, 33, of Temperance, is recovering in a rehabilitation facility in Green Springs, Ohio, prosecutors said.
Mr. Salts was punched in the face outside a party at 3862 Lockwood Ave. about 2:15 a.m. Feb. 26. He fell backward to the pavement on the driveway, hitting his head, said Jevne Meader, an assistant county prosecutor.
Witnesses said Davis was arguing with another person who was attending the party when Mr. Salts, concerned that he was picking on a much smaller person, went to him and asked why he wasn't picking on someone his own size. Davis struck the victim with his fist.
