COLUMBUS Huntington Bancshares Inc. said yesterday its acquisition of Sky Financial Group Inc. of Bowling Green will take effect July 1 and that its board will add five members from Sky.
The Columbus bank said it will rename the Sky Bank branches and close about 70 branches where its and Sky s are too close together. Officials previously said customers likely won t notice changes until September.
Huntington s takeover of Sky, which had been northwest Ohio s largest locally based bank, was announced in December. Huntington has $35 billion in assets and 375 branches in five states, plus services in other states. Sky has $17.6 billion in assets and 330 branches in five states.
