5 sponsors to advertise on Toledo police cars

Five people have committed to Toledo police-car advertisements, but who they are is still a mystery.

The individuals, who police Chief Mike Navarre declined to identify yesterday during a meeting of City Council s public safety committee, have agreed to donate $15,000 each to sponsor a patrol car and have their name on the side of the car for four years.

He said the advertisements will include the sponsor s name as well as an address and telephone number if desired.

Chief Navarre said he has the final decision about which sponsors are appropriate, but legal matters concerning whether the city has the ability to exclude certain businesses from advertising are under investigation.
