OSHA proposes fines against 2 area firms

Federal workplace safety inspectors have proposed fines of $13,500 against a Toledo company and $23,825 against a Paulding County firm.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited Hearn ThyssenKrupp Quality Systems Inc., of 4080 Bennett Rd., for three serious violations, the second-highest category, that occurred between May 31 and June 12 at the company s Toledo operations.

The violations by the warehouse and storage firm included loading-dock accidents, stairs without hand railings, and lack of training for an employee driving a powered vehicle.

Taylor Made Glass Ohio Inc., of Payne, Ohio, was cited for six serious violations that occurred between July 11 and July 18 at its windshield-glass-making operations in Payne.

The violations included exposure to floor holes over a glass furnace, the accidental start-up of machinery while workers were adjusting it, and working under a locked-out press machine without proper training,

Both companies have time to contest the violations.
