The trials for a couple charged in the Dec. 26 beating death of a 23-month-old boy will be on separate dates, a judge in Lucas County Common Pleas Court ruled yesterday.
Judge Gene Zmuda granted a defense motion to sever the trials of Mitchell Moore, 20, and Antoinette Hairston, 25, both of 1702 Ottawa Drive. Mr. Moore will have an Oct. 2 trial on murder, involuntary manslaughter, felonious assault, and child endangering charges; Ms. Hairston will have a Nov. 17 trial on involuntary manslaughter and child endangering charges.
Ms. Hairston is the mother of Tayvon Evans, who died Dec. 26 at Toledo Hospital, where he was taken unconscious and not breathing. Authorities said he had cuts on his wrists, a burn on his leg, bruising, lacerations, and head and chest injuries.
