Seven smoking fines totaling $2,000 were upheld for six Lucas County bars yesterday, but the dismissal for another fine totaling $2,500 for one of them was approved by most Toledo-Lucas County health department board members.
The six Lucas County bars had appealed smoking-ban fines ranging from $100 to $2,500.
The $2,500 smoking-ban fine for Rip Cord, 115 North Erie St., was dismissed because health department inspectors didn t interview bar officials. But a $1,000 fine against the downtown Toledo bar was upheld by board members.
The local health department has received 1,430 complaints about smoking violations; it has issued 62 fines totaling $22,100.
