Youth Empowerment awards honor initiative

Three people and an agency will receive 2008 Youth Empowerment Awards in a ceremony at 2 p.m. Friday at Government Center.

The honorees include:

• Greg Braylock, coordinator of Youth United Way, a program of the United Way of Greater Toledo.

• David Bush, founder and executive director of the Madd Poets Society and a youth mentor.

• Joel Todd, a former student representative on the University of Toledo board of trustees who has worked at the Homer Hanham Boys and Girls Club and has been a Big Brother.

• Adelante Latino Resource Center.

The award was established in 2002 by the then-youth representative on the Board of Community Relations, Ravi Perry, to recognize those who show leadership and initiative in working on behalf of youth.

Mr. Perry, plus this year s youth representative, Mario Harris-Rosser, and last year s representative, Victoria Phifer, selected the winners.
